The cancellation of this year’s London Marathon didn’t deter Sutton Coldfield Chamber president Phil Arkinstall in his bid to raise funds for YMCA Sutton Coldfield.
Like many other runners, Phil was left disappointed when the marathon was cancelled due to the pandemic.
But the managing director of video production firm Ark Media was determined not to let the charity down – or those who had already donated to his challenge.
He decided to match the funds already raised, resulting in a cheque for £1,000 being presented to YMCA Sutton Coldfield – with the promise of more to come when he eventually get to take part in the marathon.
Phil said:
“I had been training for months and had started fundraising efforts before Christmas but Covid hit and it was obvious the marathon would be at least postponed if not cancelled.”
“The London Marathon is something that I really want to complete and will be going for it again in 2021.”
“YMCA Sutton Coldfield do some amazing work with our local young people and I really wanted to ensure they had some funds during this difficult time.”
Clive Yates, CEO of YMCA Sutton Coldfield, said:
“Like many charities, Covid has had a detrimental impact and we are grateful to any businesses and individuals who can help us with our fundraising efforts.
“Ark Media have always been a supporter providing us with videos that helped us to secure vital Children in Need funding as well as fundraising activities.
“Phil has been a great support to our charity and we hope he eventually gets to run the race in 2021.”
