Everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become
YMCA believes in fairness and opportunity. There are essential building blocks for a full and rewarding life: a safe home, acceptance, guidance, friendship, physical and mental health, academic support, employment skills, and access to real opportunities. Many young people have never known these things; other people have lost one or more as they grew up, but we all need them. All of us. At YMCA, we provide these critical foundations for a fresh, strong start for young people and a better quality of life in the community.
We are a member of the National Council of YMCAs in England and Wales
As one of the 84 YMCAs in England and Wales, we work locally to support young people
YMCA England & Wales supports us by
promoting high standards and overseeing the quality of what we do
sharing best practice
fundraising nationally
partnering with local YMCAs to pilot new projects
providing learning opportunities for staff and volunteers
facilitating networking across the 84 local YMCAs
YMCA England & Wales gives us a national voice by speaking with government, key policy makers and national media, and advocating for the needs of the most vulnerable young people in England and Wales. Together, we focus on young people, helping them to play an active and fulfilling role within their communities – this is our youth-minded community approach.
Bringing together young people from YMCAs across England & Wales, Youth Ambassadors actively represent the opinions, needs and beliefs of young people. They help shape the policies we focus on, attend national and international events, and act as spokespeople for youth voices within the organisation.
Each YMCA in England and Wales is an individual, self-governing charity that affiliates to the National Council of YMCAs in England & Wales. Through this affiliation, we are part of the World YMCA – a worldwide movement helping more than 65 million people in 120 different countries.
