As a Forward Carers’ partner, we offer support to people aged 18 – 25 years old who helps care for someone with a disability, illness or addiction
In the community
Drop-in support sessions for young adult carers, weekly in Sutton Coldfield and monthly in Selly Oak.
These friendly, informal sessions give carers a bit of time off, and a chance to meet up, talk about their concerns, and receive practical and emotional support and information.

In colleges and universities
Monthly drop-in support sessions at over 15 colleges and universities during term time.
Working closely with student support staff, we identify young people who find it difficult to continue with their education because of their caring responsibilities.
We offer one-to-one support so that young adult carers can make the most of student life.
Mentoring and coaching to support and develop carer’s wellbeing, life skills and resilience.
We complete statutory carers’ assessments to understand the physical, emotional and practical impact that caring has on each young person’s life, and make sure they can access appropriate support services.

Social activities and workshops
In the holidays, we organise social activities, trips and residential breaks for young adult carers to enjoy themselves and take some time off.
And we run workshops for young people on applying to college, university and work, CV writing and interview skills.

Raising awareness
A a partner in the Birmingham Carers Hub, we work with other not-for-profit organisations to raise awareness of carers and their needs.
We network with a range of statutory and voluntary organisations to get up-to-date information for carers, and keep them informed about what carers want.
